We're NUTS! about the quality of the food we grow and the soil that provides it. Our farming and ranching roots go back generations, but we're the first generation of pecan growers. Through trial and error, we have learned that there is a better way to grow food compared to conventional farming.
When we purchased our farm in 2011, it was a conventionally managed orchard with little life in the soil or above ground. Through a series of trials and errors and accidents, we found that we weren’t limited to the conventional methods we were taught and see all around us. We have been told that cover crops in an orchard won’t work, livestock will harm the land, our production is going to suffer, we’re killing our tree’s, etc. By spending hours and hours in the orchard watching and observing with every change we made, we knew we were on to something better. There have now been over 100 cover crops trialed in our orchard. We rotationally graze cattle, sheep, and chickens through the orchard as we rotate our irrigation schedule around the livestock. Our focus today is purely on plant, animal, and soil health and we no longer focus on quantity as a determining factor for production. This shift in focus has produced a great quality and excellent tasting product, whether it’s pecans, beef, lamb, or chicken, while healing a broken piece of farmland to ever increasing levels of what nature intended.
